Baltimore’s Artscape, the largest free arts festival in the US, invited me to submit a proposal for a temporary public art intervention. Of all the available sites, I chose the most modest and ubiquitous: trash/recycling bin, bus shelter and light post. I created a modular graphic system entitled Urban Arcadia using two local icons: a pattern inspired by wrought ironwork and the black-eyed Susan, Maryland’s state flower.
