As the director of a brand-new contemporary art gallery, I tasked myself with finding a suitable space, outfitting it, conceptualizing the primary and partner identities, curating a debut exhibition, designing all collateral, event promotion, catering and hosting the opening reception, documenting the event, securing press, and building out a regular exhibition schedule.
I did all this in a week and a half. Conceptual art? Design exercise? Institutional critique? Pretentious prank? Silly spectacle? Probably a bit of all of those things, but Ledge Gallery now has a legitimate web site and a presence on Instagram and Facebook.
The gallery was originally located in my apartment, then in my shop and is now an elusive pop-up. It was profiled in Cincinnati CityBeat and recognized as a 2017 CityBeat Best of Cincinnati Staff Pick.
